So what do you guys think of the new iPad by Apple ?

Personally I think this isn't the best product by Apple. I feel it's something they have been pushed into by their own fan base and industry publications. It looks like a red herring to me.
Had a weird dream and Steve Jobs was there, must be from watching the Keynote

As a purely multimedia device this looks pretty good. Nice big display for watching movies, videos etc. No doubt the connectivitys also pretty good for casual browsing, email and streaming media.
Not so sure about more serious use for things like word processing with no keyboard. I don't particularly like the idea of typing on a touch sensitive virtual keyboard. If it's got bluetooth (not sure of the specs) it would help by allowing the connection of a wireless keyboard. If the range of applications is good that will also help, particularly if it can run the majority of iPhone apps.
I take on board your comment Joel about the developmemt of the product. It almost seems to fill the obvious gap in Apples product range between the iPod / iPhone and their cheapest laptop. Almost a halfway house product between those two devices. No doubt the Apple enthusiasts will be queuing up to get one. I won't though :)

Yes absolutely it feels like it's filling that gap in the market, rather than something the market is desperate for, or is innovative and special enough to create a new significant market. And that's what Steve Job's angle was 'well it's not a netbook' etc.
And I just don't think that's a great idea. It looks like a product to me going in all the wrong directions.
I haven't got an iPhone yet, gonna get one shortly.

I wonder if I might have been a bit hasty here. I'm guessing now this was being talked up for so long, not as it appeared; by fans, but because it represents some general industry trend towards this sort of thing. In fact Steve Jobs didn't look that enthusiastic about it, almost as if they had been pushed into this. And it's not fans that have done that, but some forces within the tech industry itself.
For me, the iPad is not quite there yet, but obviously a lot of media vendors are hoping for some considerable market for their content with this kind of thing.
And it will be good for checking out sites like this :)
